Position Title: Consultant Respiratory Physician

Sessional appointment 0.3 EFT (3 sessions per week), 21 hours per fortnight, ongoing appointment.

Unit Description:

 

The Respiratory Medicine and Sleep Disorders unit is a busy and dynamic unit providing care for all aspects of acute and chronic respiratory illness. Our inpatient unit has over 1400 separations per year and includes a 4-6 bed respiratory care unit for non-invasive ventilatory support. The department has an internationally recognised interventional bronchoscopy unit, and an interventional pleural service. Our lung function laboratory provides all aspects of pulmonary assessment including spirometry, plethysmography, DLCO, FeNO, bronchial provocation and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Our ambulatory clinics have more than 10,000 completed appointments per year and include an interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, severe asthma, lung oncology and lung cancer screening services. Our 6-bed sleep laboratory undertakes all aspects of polysomnography and ambulatory clinics attend all aspects of sleep disorders including sleep disordered breathing, sleep neurology and nocturnal ventilation support.

 

About the role:

 

Three clinical sessions can be applied for individually or combined. A weekly clinical session supports ward service comprising 10 – 12 weeks per year of ward service duty including after hours on call for the inpatient unit or consultation service. A session of interventional bronchoscopy requires attending a weekly list of diagnostic bronchoscopies including linear and radial EBUS as well as more advanced bronchoscopic procedures, involvement in planning and periprocedural care is also expected. The third session is consulting in an outpatient clinic setting.

About You:

We are seeking an experience and energetic respiratory physician who is focused on patient centred evidence-based care and values working collaboratively. Substantial independent bronchoscopy experience is required for the interventional bronchoscopy session.

 

  • Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)
  • MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians with specialisation in respiratory medicine
  • Recognition of training by the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand or equivalent
  • Experience in research including a higher degree is desirable.
