Specialist Emergency Physician – Leave cover ranging from 30 June 2025 – 15 February 2026
This is an opportunity to join the highly successful RMH ED Senior Medical Staff team and to take part in shaping the future of this important department.
The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services, as well as rehabilitation, aged care, outpatient, and community programs. We are a designated state-wide provider for services including trauma, and we lead centres of excellence for tertiary services in several key specialties including neurosciences, nephrology, oncology, cardiology, and virtual health. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.
We are looking for passionate and dedicated individuals to join the team in our high volume, high acuity major trauma service ED.
There are fixed-term hours for Emergency Physician positions available, based at the Royal Melbourne Hospital City Campus in Parkville. The position involves working in all areas of the RMH ED including Trauma and Resuscitation areas, Short Stay, ED Mental Health and AOD Hub, Emergency Physician in Charge and Doctor at Triage roles.
Your Opportunity

- Provide expert trauma care, pioneering neurosciences management and critical care as part of a multidisciplinary team in an ED with one of the most acute and complex case mixes in Australia
- Supervise junior medical staff, nurse practitioners, advanced practice physiotherapists and medical support officers
- Innovate to find solutions to today and tomorrows emergency care, quality, and flow challenges.
- Become involved in teaching, research, quality improvement and administration in a world leading emergency department.
About You
- Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine
- Highly skilled in trauma, neurosciences, toxicology, resuscitation, education, and research
- Committed to high quality emergency care and a preparedness to be innovative in finding solutions to the modern challenges of patient flow
- Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary team in a constructive and positive way in a high-pressure environment
