Job Description: 

Specialist Diagnostic Haematologist

7 hours per fortnight Fractional/Ongoing

The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

Unit Description:

The Haematology laboratory at the Royal Melbourne Hospital is a busy 24/7 laboratory supporting the level 1 trauma unit, emergency department, large ICU and multiple specialty units. There is a strong pedigree in registrar teaching, preparing our haematology trainees for a career assisting high acuity care in a tertiary referral teaching hospital.

About the role:

  • The specialist diagnostic haematologist will
    • Provide consultant diagnostic haematology service during and after hours
    • Supervise the registrars and scientists in the haematology laboratory
    • Participate in teaching/training of doctors and scientists specialising in haematology
    • Participate in clinical research

About You:

The Specialist Haematologist will have a track record of teaching registrars and scientific staff. They will be punctual, reliable and capable of self-directed prioritisation of tasks and learning. Participation in management meetings and governance committees will be encouraged.

•            Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)

•            MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications

•            Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia
