Specialist Cardiologist in Congenital Heart Disease and Advanced Cardiac Imaging

Unit Description:
The Cardiology Department includes the Coronary Care and Step-down Unit, the Cardiac Catheter Laboratories, a Cardiology ward, a Cardiology Day ward, and the non-invasive and diagnostic service. The Department provides care to emergency and elective patients with heart disease including ischaemic heart disease, heart failure and valvular heart disease. Major areas of activity include adult congenital cardiac service (including close links with Royal Children’s and Royal Women’s Hospitals), interventional coronary and structural cardiology, and cardiac genetics service. In addition, the Department is a national and international leader in clinical care, teaching and research of cardiac arrhythmias, including complex atrial and ventricular ablations. The cardiomyopathy service includes a heart failure rehabilitation program and is planning to expand its inpatient and outpatient heart failure service across RMH.
In a 12-month period, approximately 4,500 inpatients are treated, with approximately 2,700 patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratories. Approximately 13,500 patients attend for outpatient consultations or outpatient investigations, and approximately 2,200 patients attend cardiac rehabilitation.
About the role:
The successful applicant will join the Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) and Advanced Cardiac Imaging teams with the following schedule.
• Two sessions per week of adult congenital heart disease clinics (held on Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon).
• Two sessions per week of Advanced Cardiac Imaging, specifically cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging with a particular focus on patients with adult congenital heart disease.
• One session per week in general cardiology clinic (Wednesday afternoon).
• Four hours per fortnight for transthoracic echo reporting OR ward service as required as a consultant on the Complex Care Pathway Team.

About You:
- Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)
- MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
- Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
- Expertise in CMR imaging, specifically with respect to the imaging of patients with congenital heart disease
