Specialist Cardiac Surgeon

Unit Description:
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our Cardiac Surgery team as a Specialist Cardiac Surgeon with experience in managing patients with heart disease, including assessment, operative management and pre and postoperative care to apply to join Royal Melbourne Hospital from September 2025.
About the role:
- This position is based at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, City Campus.
- The successful candidate must have had experience as a consultant with recognised specialist qualifications (FRACS or equivalent).
- Experience in managing a range of heart conditions is essential:
- Excellent knowledge of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiology, in addition to good overall knowledge of medicine in Surgery.
- Experienced in and independently able to perform: – All Tier A Cardiac Surgery procedures, including but not limited to – Adult congenital heart surgery, Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery, aortic valve replacement, mitral valve replacement and aortic surgery, Ross and David procedures.
- Experience in patient care including preoperative assessment, intra-operative / operating room, intensive care unit, high dependency unit, ward, postoperative review and follow up.
- Experience in the conduct of audit, and of clinical trials.
- Substantial experience in clinical research, and a track record of appropriate publications and presentations at professional meetings

About You:
- Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)
- MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
- Fellowship
- Proficiency in specialist Cardiac Surgery
