Sleep Scientist (Grade 1-2)

  • Permanent Part Time - 16 hours per fortnight
  • Thursday evenings 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm
  • Additional shifts available on an ad hoc basis
  • Located at the edge of the CBD at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Parkville

 The Department of Respiratory and Sleep Disorders Medicine at The Royal Melbourne Hospital is dedicated to the provision of a high-quality sleep service that provides a range of diagnostic and treatment tests to assist in the management of patients with known or suspected sleep disorders.

 Your new Role:

  • As a Sleep Scientist working on evening shifts and possibly some night shifts, you will be responsible for the following core activities:
  • Admission and care of patients attending for overnight sleep studies
  • Setting up patients for home-based and lab-based sleep studies
  • Preparing, fitting, and educating patients on the use of PAP therapy for the treatment of sleep apnoea
  • Monitoring overnight sleep studies, including manual titration of CPAP and supplemental oxygen
  • Use and maintenance of lab equipment in accordance with lab protocols
  • Assistance in supporting and training new scientific staff
  • Participation in lab quality assurance activities
  • Attendance at lab meetings and other training or professional development programs
  • General lab duties as required

 About You:

  • Bachelor of Science, Applied Science or Biomedical Science with a major in physiology, psychophysiology, psychology or equivalent
  • Prior experience working as a sleep scientist or CPAP therapist
  • Friendly and professional demeaner with effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritise and delegate when appropriate
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a methodical approach to problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and flexible
