Senior Epidemiologist

  • Part time ongoing role, 48 hours per fortnight.
  • Join a multidisciplinary team at the Victorian Healthcare Associated Infection Surveillance System (VICNISS) Coordinating centre.

About the role:

The VICNISS Coordinating Centre is an independent centre fully funded by the Department of Health, Victoria, to coordinate surveillance of hospital acquired infections in the state. It is responsible for support and maintenance of the Victorian hospital associated infection surveillance system in hospitals across Victoria. The Centre is recognised as a leader in the surveillance of hospital acquired infections.

VICNISS requires the services of an experienced epidemiologist. This position involves working with a multidisciplinary team. The team includes clinicians (physicians and nurses), information technology and administrative staff and a biostatistician.  The core business of the centre consists of producing reports and analyses on infection rates and associated hospital performance indicators. The centre also carries out research into the epidemiology of healthcare associated infections and interventions aimed at reducing these infections.

 

About You:

  • Post-graduate qualification in epidemiology (PhD, Master of Applied Epidemiology, MPH or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years’ experience with the manipulation of large data sets.
  • Expertise in the use of statistical packages.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with interpretation of and analysis of large datasets.
  • A record of peer reviewed publications would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the Victorian health system would be an advantage.
