Senior Clinician – Emergency Mental Health

About the role

Join the Emergency Mental Health (EMH) Team at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and provide timely, high-quality mental health assessment, intervention and care for people experiencing mental health crisis in the Emergency Department.

Working within a 24/7 multidisciplinary service, you’ll deliver comprehensive assessments, brief interventions, risk management and discharge planning, while collaborating with consumers, families, carers and clinical teams to support safe, person-centred care and appropriate ongoing pathways.

This is an opportunity to build your expertise in mental health assessment, crisis management and therapeutic engagement within a supportive, highly skilled team.

Key Accountabilities

• Provide timely mental health assessment, risk management, crisis intervention and discharge planning.
• Deliver recovery-oriented, person-centred care in partnership with consumers, families and carers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support safe, coordinated care and transitions.
• Provide clinical consultation and discipline-specific expertise to colleagues.
• Maintain high-quality documentation and contribute to education, professional development and service improvement.

About You

This multidisciplinary opportunity is open to Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Clinical Psychologists who hold the relevant qualifications, registration and/or professional membership outlined in the Position Description.

You will also bring:

• Sound knowledge of mental health assessment, mental illness and relevant legislation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build therapeutic relationships and work collaboratively with consumers, families, carers and multidisciplinary teams.
• The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced emergency environment, manage competing priorities and respond to people experiencing mental health crisis.
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including weekends and night shifts.
