  • Full-time Ongoing role, working 80 hours per fortnight
  • Contribute discipline specific expertise to a supportive multidisciplinary team
  • Police, Ambulance and Clinical Early Response rotation
  • Based in Parkville, Melbourne’s central healthcare hub

The Mental Health Services Emergency Mental Health Team (EMH) is a dedicated and highly skilled multi-disciplinary team providing a 24-hour, 7 days a week assessment and treatment service. We offer support to individuals experiencing psychiatric crises who present to the RMH Emergency Department (ED). Our team is committed to delivering compassionate and effective care, ensuring that individuals receive the support and treatment they need.

About the role:

  • Integral Role: The team plays a pivotal role within the ED, serving as a crucial interface between community mental health services, the Post Discharge Mental Health Support program, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and inpatient services
  • Comprehensive Care: EMH clinicians contribute to the assessment, management, treatment, and discharge planning of consumers in crisis and with potential mental health disorders
  • Dynamic Environment: Operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, the team works closely with Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), Social Work (SW) and care coordination services
  • Autonomous Support: EMH clinicians have the capacity to work independently but with accessible escalation where required, supporting individuals in mental health crisis and involving family and carers in treatment outcomes whenever possible
  • Skill Development: The role provides opportunities to develop and excel in clinical assessment, targeted brief interventions, risk assessment, crisis management, and communication skills
  • Collaborative Consultation: EMH clinicians consult with ED staff while identifying and assessing individuals with possible mental illness, ensuring a collaborative approach to care
  • Disciplinary Contribution: You'll have the opportunity to contribute your discipline-specific expertise to a supportive multidisciplinary team, enhancing the overall quality of care provided

 

About you:

Formal Qualifications

  • This is a multidisciplinary role and is open to Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Clinical Psychologists (must hold relevant degree, registration and/or membership as per attached Position Description)

 

Essential

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of mental illness and the assessment of disorders including relevant legislation pertinent to the role
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills
  • Ability to work on a rotating roster including weekend and night shifts
