Join the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team at The Royal Melbourne Hospital’s Orygen Specialist Program, providing specialist care to young people in custodial settings. This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mental Health Clinician with AOD experience to work with young people in custodial settings, focusing on recovery-oriented care during a period of growth driven by the Royal Commission and mental health reforms.
This position is currently based across both Parkville and Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precincts. As such, travel to the workplace destination is included within the working hours as/where required and access to a workplace vehicle will be provided.

About the role:
The Senior Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Clinician will work in collaboration with the Custodial FYMHS Specialist Services Lead and the Custodial FYMHS multidisciplinary team to develop excellence in clinical service delivery in the areas of specialist addiction assessment and intervention. You will be joining a skilled and supportive team in a newly created AOD specialist role to help develop and support an enhanced model of care across Orygen's Custodial FYMHS team.
- Support the development and expansion of custodial mental health services within the Parkville and Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precincts
- Assist and support young people in custody to address harmful behaviours resulting from problematic substance use
- Manage and undertake AOD-specific assessments and interventions.
- Provide care team consultation, liaison and support, service linkages for young people within and exiting custody
About you
Formal Qualifications
- This is a multidisciplinary role and is open to Grade 4 Registered Psychiatric Nurses, and Grade 3 Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Psychologists (Clinical, Forensic & Neuropsychology endorsed)
Essential
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the application of clinical practice in the mental health field, specifically with young people experiencing mental health disorders
- Demonstrated understanding of interventions for reducing alcohol and drug related harm
- Passionate, creative, collaborative and compassionate team player
Desirable
- Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant sectors
