Medical Scientist – Haematology (Grade 1/ 2)
The Royal Melbourne Hospital

 

  • Fixed Term Position – until 17 July 2026
  • Full time- 80 hours per fortnight
  • Haematology and blood transfusion 
  • Rotating roster including weekends, overnight and on-call shifts

The Royal Melbourne Hospital Haematology Laboratory is a busy, modern lab performing a wide range of diagnostic investigations. We are seeking a Grade 1/2 Medical Scientist to join our collaborative and high-performing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a laboratory that is part of a leading, integrated pathology service across the Parkville Precinct, supporting excellence in healthcare for all Victorians.

Your new role:

  • Perform accurate and timely Haematology and Blood Bank testing
  • Prioritise urgent work and troubleshoot instrumentation issues
  • Deliver high-quality results while adhering to laboratory protocols and NATA accreditation standards
  • Rotate through various laboratory sections and participate in a 24/7 shift roster including evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call
  • Collaborate with senior scientists and clinical teams to ensure service excellence

About you:

  • Degree in Laboratory Medicine or equivalent (majoring in Haematology)
  • Experience working in a haematology/ blood transfusion laboratory
  • Experience in blood film morphology
  • Strong interest in Haematology and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities
  • Eligible to work in Australia
