Job Description: 

Safe Haven Consumer Peer Support Worker
The Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental Health Services

 

  • Part Time, Ongoing position working 4 days per week
  • Provide intentional peer support to guests experiencing mental health distress
  • Co-facilitate groups within our community drop-in Safe Haven model

Our Safe Haven operates from a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach—supporting self-determination and prioritising choice, safety and connection.

We are seeking a compassionate lived experience professional to join our values-driven team, supporting people accessing our services with empathy, respect and hope.

This role is primarily based in Safe Haven, with flexibility to work across inpatient and other programs within a culturally safe, trauma-informed service.

 

Your New Role

You will provide person-centred, non-clinical peer support that honours each person’s story, strengths and self-determination. Working within the Intentional Peer Support framework, you will:

  • Support individuals and groups within the Safe Haven environment
  • Foster a culture of safety, choice, connection and belonging
  • Engage in regular supervision and co-reflection to support your wellbeing and professional growth

About You

  • Experience in a lived experience or peer support role
  • Passion for supporting others through shared understanding and mutuality
  • Ability to uplift others while respecting diverse perspectives and experiences
  • Strong commitment to trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice
