Team Leader - Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 4 - Norfolk Terrace Community Care Units

  • A clinical leadership role leading the nursing and allied health team members of the CCU.
  • The Team Leader oversees the day to day delivery of high quality clinical and recovery focused rehabilitation services to the consumers in the CCU.
  • A combination of clinical and leadership skills required for this RPN 4 position.
  • The role is offered on a Temporary Part Time basis of 0.6 eft for a 12-month period.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) part of the Parkville Precinct and is one of Australia's leading public hospitals, providing a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services, as well as rehabilitation, aged care, specialist clinics and community programs.

We are seeking a suitably experienced RPN 4 to lead the multidisciplinary team of Norfolk Terrace Community Care Units (CCU).

The role is offered on a Temporary Part Time basis of 0.6 eft for a 12-month period.

You will share the role with the current CCU Team Leader (0.4 eft).

Norfolk Terrace CCU is a 20-bed residential facility providing rehabilitation for people with severe and enduring mental illness within the RMH MHS catchment. The facility is located in Travancore Melbourne in a residential area and consists of 12 units offering share accommodation for consumers.

Care is provided under the Recovery Framework, and promotes holistic recovery equipping individuals with the daily living skills needed to live independently in their community.

We work closely with family and carers and foster community partnerships throughout the consumer stay. The CCU program aims to empower consumers of this service to live full and meaningful lives in the presence of enduring symptoms.

About the role:

  • The Team Leader assists the Program Manager, and is an integral part of the CCU leadership team alongside the CCU Consultant Psychiatrist, Senior OT and Senior Psychologist. By supporting clinical staff in the provision of complex clinical care for consumers experiencing psychiatric illness and providing high level clinical expertise within the team with respect to the assessment and treatment of consumers with complex mental health related needs and their family/carers.
  • As Team Leader, the incumbent will be expected to provide advanced clinical advice and supervision to other staff in the Team and across the AMHS. Participation in quality assurance processes, research and service evaluation programs is expected.
  • Coordinate the day to day operations of the CCU and allocation of ‘key clinicians’
  • Is the point of access for all referrals into the CCU, co-ordinating assessments and the transition for consumers into a CCU stay.
  • The position requires extensive experience in the provision of specialist services in public mental health settings and highly developed clinical expertise.
  • Provide and participate in staff performance appraisal, professional supervision and training, ensuring that high quality clinical services are provided through direction and leadership to the Norfolk Terrace CCU clinicians as part of the leadership team.
  • Other responsibilities include Quality and service improvement activities, Policy and procedure review and formulation, leadership and guidance to all levels of nursing - including Undergraduate nursing students, New Graduate and Postgraduate nurses, and taking a lead role in community liaison, education and service development.

 

About you 

Qualifications

  • Registration as a registered nurse under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Bachelor Degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent, or, Bachelor Degree in Nursing plus a Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.

 

Essential

  • Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) working as a mental health nurse within a multidisciplinary care team in various settings.
  • Demonstrated experience working in clinical leadership roles
  • Understanding of Legislation pertinent to the provision of mental health services and in particular the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 and of policies and strategic directions of Public Mental Health Services

 

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering, and in the participation of, nursing clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the physical health co morbidities associated with serious mental illness
