Clinical Nurse Consultant or Nurse Practitioner
Mobile Stroke Unit - Royal Melbourne Hospital

 

 

  • Work on the first Australian Mobile Stroke Ambulance.
  • Part Time ongoing – 24 hrs per fortnight

The Royal Melbourne Hospital Neurology Department operates two CT-equipped Mobile Stroke Unit ambulances in conjunction with Ambulance Victoria, supported by partner organisations.

The Mobile Stroke Unit operates out of two geographical sites: The RMH - City and an Ambulance Victoria branch in Dandenong South. The Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU) provides pre-hospital stroke care to patients located within metropolitan Melbourne, with reach into regional areas facilitated by an ambulance-MSU rendezvous model operating during the hours of 8am - 6pm.  The ambulances run with the following staff: 2 Ambulance, 1 Consultant Neurologist, 1 Nurse, 1 Radiographer.

 Your new role:

  • Facilitating and assisting with primary stroke and neurological assessments on-board the ambulance.
  • Engaging in consultation with the onboard or telemedicine neurologist regarding imaging results and treatment decisions.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale and modified Rankin Scale Certifications
  • Assistance with thrombolysis and thrombectomy screening.
  • Work across two sites.

About you:

  • You have acute hospital experience with a collaborative working style.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in acute stroke management and/or qualifications in Neuroscience, ICU or Emergency Nursing
  • You are looking to expand your nursing skills and work with leaders of neurological disorder treatment and research.
  • You have effective communication skills and a passion for continued professional development.
  • You are an AHPRA registered Nurse who has experience in stroke, emergency or ICU.
