Registered Nurse - Emergency General Surgery

About the role
Join 3South, a 28-bed Emergency General Surgical ward at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, caring for patients admitted directly from the Emergency Department. With a shorter average length of stay than many inpatient areas, 3South offers a fast-paced and rewarding environment where you'll develop strong acute surgical nursing skills while delivering safe, timely, effective and person-centred care.
Working alongside an experienced and supportive multidisciplinary team, you'll care for patients with a broad range of emergency general surgical conditions and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and clinical excellence. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated nurse looking to build their experience in a high-acuity surgical setting while making a meaningful difference to patient outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure the provision of high-quality patient care. This includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care in collaboration with the 3 South Multidisciplinary Team.
- Strengthen your understanding of an emergency general surgical patient presentation and provide the care required from admission to discharge.
- Uphold The Melbourne Way core values and standards of practice.
- Communicate effectively with 3 South key stakeholders; nursing, medical, pharmacy and allied health.
About You
You are a Registered Nurse with at least one year of acute nursing experience who is committed to delivering safe, person-centred care.You will also bring

- At least one year of acute nursing experience.
- Developing assessment, clinical reasoning, problem-solving and prioritisation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A proactive approach to learning and ongoing professional development.
- A high level of reliability, accountability and professional conduct.
