The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), part of the Parkville Precinct, is one of Australia’s leading public hospitals, delivering specialist medical, surgical, mental health, rehabilitation, aged care, and community services.

Norfolk Terrace Community Care Unit (CCU) is a 20-bed residential facility providing 24/7 medium to long-term rehabilitation for people with serious mental illness and disability. Consumers receive high-level clinical support and intensive rehabilitation to build skills in self-care, communication, and social engagement.

Recovery planning is collaborative, involving the multi-disciplinary team, consumers, carers, and community services, in line with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022. The focus is on least-restrictive, recovery-oriented care to support community integration.

 

  • The purpose of the Psychiatric Enrolled Nurse (PEN) Grade 1-3 is to contribute to excellence in consumer care and provide the highest standard of clinical input as part of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • The Psychiatric Enrolled Nurse (PEN) Grade 1- 3 is required to work rotating rosters (morning, afternoon & night) as required to ensure clinical service.

About the role:

  • Liaise with the multi-disciplinary health care team to achieve the desired consumer outcomes
  • Undertake a secondary case management role & contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of planned care for consumers, under the direction of the Registered Nurse
  • Provide a high-quality standard of consumer care - these include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the consumer health status and report/document any changes in consumer condition
  • Assist in the formulation and implementation Wellbeing and Recovery Plans
  • Assist in the co-facilitation of basic therapeutic tasks with consumers, both individually and in groups. This may include being involved in recreational/social outings and monitoring basic living skills.
  • Participate in the review of rehabilitation goals, treatment and care within the clinical review process

 

About you:

Qualifications

  • Enrolled Nurses:
    1. Registration as an enrolled nurse under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
    2. Diploma in Nursing, or equivalent, including Board-approved qualification in administration of medicines.

Essential

  • Demonstrated skills in the provision of recovery focused interventions, psycho-social recovery-oriented rehabilitation for people with psychiatric disorders who may have complex needs
  • Demonstrated ability to practise collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Understanding of Legislation pertinent to the provision of mental health services and in particular the    Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 and of policies and strategic directions of Public Mental Health Services.
  • A current Victorian Driver’s License, and ongoing ability to use this form of transport

Desirable

  • Have at least 2 years' post graduate mental health nursing experience
