The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) Shared Service Payroll team processes payroll for over 30,000 employees across four major health services, ensuring compliance with 26 complex Enterprise Agreements. Our Payroll team plays a critical role in delivering this commitment by enabling accurate, efficient, and technology-driven payroll services.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Payroll Systems Manager to lead the strategic management, optimisation, and support of our payroll technology platforms, including SAP, RosterOn, and related HR/payroll/finance interfaces.
This pivotal role will oversee payroll system performance, configuration, and enhancements, ensuring that technology solutions support payroll accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. You will lead a team of technical specialists and partner with stakeholders across Payroll Operations, HR, Finance, and IT and our clients to deliver system improvements and enable digital transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the ongoing operation, configuration, and optimisation of payroll systems (SAP, RosterOn, SuccessFactors integration, and other platforms).
- Lead payroll systems projects, upgrades, and enhancements to improve accuracy, compliance, and user experience.
- Ensure system integrity, security, and data quality through governance, testing, and regular audit activities.
- Partner with Payroll Operations and HR to deliver system solutions aligned to business needs.
- Provide technical leadership, issue resolution, and subject matter expertise for complex payroll system queries.
- Drive continuous improvement and digital transformation initiatives, including automation and AI opportunities.
- Build capability within the Payroll Systems team through coaching, leadership, and professional development.
About You
- Proven leadership experience in payroll systems management, HRIS, or similar technology-driven environments.
- Detailed knowledge of SAP Payroll, RosterOn, and/or similar payroll and rostering systems, and payroll/HR interfaces (SuccessFactors highly desirable).
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance requirements, and complex Enterprise Agreements.
- Demonstrated experience delivering system upgrades, integrations, or transformation projects in large organisations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Highly developed communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes.
- Tertiary qualifications in IT, HR, Business Systems, or related fields desirable.
