About the Role
Join the team at Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental Health Services (RMH MHS) as a designated lived experience dual role.
Use your personal experience of supporting a family member, partner/friend or loved one experiencing mental ill-health, psychological distress or alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges to provide hope, advocacy and support to other families and carers.
Working as part of the Inner Melbourne (Open Dialogue) multidisciplinary team, you will help facilitate network meetings that bring together consumers, families, carers and clinicians to support shared understanding, collaborative decision-making and recovery.
Your Impact
- Provide peer support to families, carers, supporters and kin using your lived experience appropriately.
- Co-facilitate Open Dialogue network meetings alongside clinicians.
- Promote recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and family-inclusive practice.
- Advocate for the voice, rights and needs of carers within the mental health service.
- Support carers to navigate the mental health system and access community resources.
- Share lived experience in a purposeful and safe manner to inspire hope and connection.
- Build collaborative relationships with carers, clinicians and community organisations.
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality and ethical peer practice.
- Participate in supervision, reflective practice and ongoing professional development.
About You
You are a Carer Lived Experience Worker who brings:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a Carer Peer Support role, or other carer Lived Experience role
- Personal lived experience as a family member, carer or supporter of an adult who has experienced mental illness, psychological distress or AOD challenges
- Demonstrated ability to use lived experience intentionally and appropriately to support others
- Understanding of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and person-centred practice
- Strong communication, listening and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of carer rights, advocacy and the Victorian mental health and wellbeing system
