The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) part of the Parkville Precinct and is one of Australia's leading public hospitals, providing a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services, as well as rehabilitation, aged care, specialist clinics and community programs.
The Aged Care 1 Ward (AC1) is a 20 bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) ward based at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Park Campus.
The ward specialises in assessment and management and care of the older person with chronic and complex conditions associated with aging and cognitive impairment. The GEM ward aims to improve the functioning of the older person with a multidimensional focus of healthcare needs. Our multidisciplinary team aims to promote recovery in a person-centred approach which can be continued at home or in the residential aged care facility.
The Nurse Unit Manager provides visible and accessible clinical leadership by working alongside the multidisciplinary team and with patients in a supervisory capacity to ensure the delivery of safe person-centred care.

About the role
- We are seeking an experienced nurse with demonstrated abilities to lead a multidisciplinary team, passionate about care of the older person and outcome focused, highly developed critical thinking skills and someone who can thrive in a dynamic ward environment.
- The Nurse Unit Manager is accountable for ensuring staff deliver high quality care and is responsible for managing clinical risk and implementing systems and processes to improve the patient experience and outcomes.
- The position is also responsible for the management of the designated cost centre including human and fiscal resources, performance targets and organizational priorities.
About you
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse Division 1 with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
Essential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing and leading a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills at both a clinical and executive level
Desirable
- Previous experience in geriatric and sub acute nursing is desirable
