About the role

We are seeking a Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) to lead 7B, a 32-bed Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant ward within Medical Services at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Providing visible clinical and operational leadership, you will ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care while fostering a positive, high-performing team culture.

Working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, you will oversee the ward's day-to-day operations, support patient flow, workforce capability and continuous improvement, and drive excellence in patient care, quality, and service performance. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced nurse leader to influence clinical practice, mentor and develop staff, lead service improvements, and contribute to strategic initiatives across Medical Services and the Parkville Precinct.

7B delivers specialist care for patients requiring haematology and bone marrow transplant services, with a strong multidisciplinary approach focused on safe, timely, effective and person-centred care for patients with complex needs.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leading, coaching, and developing a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care
  • Managing day-to-day ward operations including staffing, rostering, and workload allocation
  • Supporting patient flow and access through effective bed management and coordination
  • Driving quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and compliance with clinical standards
  • Managing workforce performance, recruitment, and staff engagement
  • Overseeing budget, resources, and cost centre accountability
  • Building strong relationships with medical teams, allied health, and key stakeholders

 

About You

You are a capable and motivated nurse leader who brings:

  • Proven experience in acute care, ideally within Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build engage and grow high performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • A commitment to patient centred care, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex environments and competing priorities.
  • AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Postgraduate qualifications (or working towards) in leadership or relevant specialty (desirable)
