The Royal Melbourne Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Unit Manager to lead the Plastics, Head and Neck Oncology, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) specialty.
The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) provides visible clinical leadership, working alongside the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality, person-centred care. The role is accountable for supporting and developing staff, managing clinical risk, and implementing systems to improve patient outcomes and experience. The NUM is responsible for effective management of the ward’s cost centre, including workforce and financial resources, performance targets, and alignment with organisational priorities.
Your new role
- Provide effective leadership and management of nursing and multidisciplinary teams within the Plastics, Head and Neck Oncology, and OMFS service
- Ensure excellence in clinical care, patient safety, and quality improvement outcomes
- Manage operational functions including staffing, rostering, workforce planning, and performance management
- Support education, professional development, and succession planning for nursing staff
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies, clinical governance frameworks, and accreditation standards
- Contribute to service development, change management, and strategic initiatives
About you
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
- Demonstrated 5 yrs experience and expertise in leading a team.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient and staff safety and person-centred care
- High level of reliability and professional conduct
- Ability to think strategically and deal with complex problems
