The Royal Melbourne Hospital is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented Instrument Technicians to join our Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) on a casual basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the safe delivery of surgical care across the hospital while gaining broad experience in a highly specialised environment.

 Your New Role
As an Instrument Technician, you will play a vital role in the collection, cleaning, and decontamination of reusable medical equipment for the Operating Theatres and clinical units. Working under the direction of the Instrument Technician Supervisor, you will:

  • Rotate through all areas of the CSSD
  • Clean, inspect, assemble, and package surgical instruments in accordance with departmental protocols and manufacturer guidelines
  • Operate washers, dryers, and sterilizers safely and accurately
  • Prepare and process instrument sets, including loan kits, for sterilisation
  • Maintain high standards of infection prevention, safety, and traceability
  • Support general CSSD duties and additional tasks as delegated by the Nurse Unit Manager

About You
Self-motivated professional who takes pride in delivering high-quality work. You also bring:

  • Certificate IV in Sterilisation Services (or equivalent from a registered training organisation)
  • Minimum 12 months’ experience working as an Instrument Technician
  • A high level of attention to detail and commitment to infection control
  • Strong ability to work independently within established guidelines
  • Flexibility and willingness to rotate through all CSSD zones including: decontamination, packing, low-temperature and steam sterilisation, sterile storage, and specialty areas
