The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) part of the Parkville Precinct and is one of Australia's leading public hospitals, providing a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services, as well as rehabilitation, aged care, specialist clinics and community programs. 

AC1 is a newly established 20 bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) ward. AC1 provides specialist care to general GEM patients in a supportive and safe environment.

About the Role:

  • The role of the Health Assistant in Nursing (HAN) is to provide support to the nursing team in the delivery of safe and quality care.
  • Work collaboratively, and under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Unit Manager and/or a Registered Nurse (RN) delegate at all times, within their level of education and assessed competencies and also under clearly defined role parameters.
  • The role itself is often flexible and involves a mixture of direct care and other activities that support the nursing team. This includes, but isn't limited to, working 1:1 with patients, supporting patients and providing extra supervision for those that are high falls risk, and assisting nursing with attending patient ADLs.
  • Speak up for patient, consumer, colleague and visitor safety, escalating issues if required.
  • Deliver Safe, Timely, Effective, Person-centred Care (STEP) in line with our clinical governance framework.


About you:

  • Certificate III in Health Services Assistance
  • Commitment to live the Melbourne Way - putting people first, leading with kindness and achieving
  • Minimum 6 months experience in an acute healthcare setting or at least 1 year experience in a subacute/aged care healthcare setting
  • High level of reliability and professional conduct
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High motivation and willingness to learn solving and prioritisation skills
