Lead with purpose at one of Victoria’s leading iconic health services. As General Manager, Mental Health Services at The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), you will drive operational excellence and clinical service leadership across a complex, high-impact portfolio.

RMH Mental Health Services delivers person-centred, recovery-oriented care through a multidisciplinary workforce, including Lived and Living Experience consumer and carer experts. We provide specialist community and hospital-based services for adults and older adults experiencing, or at risk of, serious mental illness grounded in trauma informed, holistic, and evidence based practice.

As a Senior Leader you will work in close partenrship with the Chief Operating Officer, you will lead strategy and operations across the service, overseeing performance, budgets, workforce planning, and service delivery. You will play a critical role in improving access, managing demand and patient flow, and embedding The Melbourne Way to achieve organisational priorities and deliver safe, timely, and equitable care.

Your New Role

  • Oversee the strategic, operational and financial performance of Mental Health Services, ensuring safe, timely, equitable and person-centred care.
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to manage access, demand and patient flow across the service.
  • Drive innovation in service development, digital transformation and capital planning to meet current and future healthcare needs.
  • Champion excellence in governance, compliance, and performance monitoring through robust systems and service-wide leadership.
  • Represent the service across the organisation and external partnerships, contributing to statewide health system improvements and collaborations.
  • Embed “The Melbourne Way” into everyday operations — leading with kindness, putting people first, and excelling together.

 

About You

  • Hold Tertiary qualifications in a mental health discipline (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Social Work, etc)
  • Bring significant leadership experience within a major public or private health service.
  • Demonstrated success in driving performance improvement and achieving financial, quality, and operational targets.
  • Skilled in service planning, change management and fostering high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Deep understanding of the Victorian healthcare system, and experience working across partnerships, providers, and regulatory bodies.
  • You model excellence, encourage innovation, and foster a psychologically safe and inclusive work environment.
