Finance Associate, Office for Research
The Royal Melbourne Hospital

  • Ongoing position, HS2
  • Provide financial and operational support for the Research Portfolio at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
  • Salary Packaging, 5 weeks annual leave plus ADO and Hybrid Working.

Lead with purpose at one of Victoria’s most iconic health institutions. As the Finance Associate you will provide business support to the Office for Research, Research Portfolio.

Join the RMH Finance team as a Research Finance Associate and play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the Office for Research. This dynamic position involves managing invoicing, budget tracking, and financial reporting for research projects, while working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance and efficiency. You’ll contribute to business management, internal grant coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives, all within a collaborative and values-driven environment. With a hybrid work model and the opportunity to engage in meaningful research support, this role offers both flexibility and purpose in one of Victoria’s leading health services.

Your New Role

  • Manage study-specific invoicing, monthly Institutional Research Overhead allocations, finance journals, and accounts receivable processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across all research finance activities.
  • Support the Manager, Research Finance with tracking, reconciliations, late payment follow-ups, and contribute to financial reporting, agreement reviews, and operational data collection.
  • Maintain access to key financial documentation for business continuity, manage the OfR Finance inbox, and assist in developing and embedding finance procedures within RMH systems.
  • Provide support for cost centre administration, overseas invoicing, grant acquittals, and internal grant coordination, while assisting researchers with system access and Letters of Support.
  • Manage submission fees, liaise with RMH service departments, support the OfR Leadership Team, and contribute to organisation-wide initiatives while promoting RMH values and safe work practices.
  • Embed “The Melbourne Way” into everyday operations — leading with kindness, putting people first, and excelling together.

About You

  • You hold a relevant qualification in Accounting or Business, with experience in a finance role and an interest in pursuing CA/CPA accreditation.
  • You bring strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reconciliation, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines calmly and efficiently.
  • You are a collaborative team player who also works well independently, with a commitment to delivering high-quality service in a regulated environment.
  • You’re confident using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft tools, with experience in Oracle or similar finance systems; Power BI knowledge is a bonus.
  • You demonstrate excellent communication skills, professionalism, and discretion, with a sound understanding of financial processes in healthcare or clinical research settings.
