The Royal Melbourne Hospital Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Director
- Lead the EMR function for the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS)

- Fixed term to September 2026. Full-time, 80 hours per fortnight, including monthly ADO and 5 weeks annual leave.
Reporting to the Chief Quality Officer, the EMR Director is responsible for the electronic medical record for RMH and Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS), focusing on delivering safe, timely, effective person-centred care through upgrades, service requests, enhancements and projects.
This role will work in collaboration with the Parkville EMR Director and EMR Directors from the other Parkville health services to ensure delivery of the strategic and operational requirements of the EMR. The role will ensure the EMR enables RMH’s priorities and strategic plan and supports the organisation to transform health care and research output.
The EMR Director will foster collaborative working relationships with staff from across RMH including the RMH Executive, Chief Clinical Information Officers, the RMH Senior Leadership Team and clinical staff and other key stakeholders including the EMR vendor and Local Health Service Network partners.
In this role you will:
- Provide operational management and leadership of the RMH EMR team, and provide support and leadership for the PYMHWS EMR Service in accordance with the service level agreement.
- Lead complex enterprise wide digital projects.
- Coordinate and facilitate agile and effective EMR decision making within the RMH organisational structure.
- Ensure data is made available to improve patient outcomes and experience.
- Support the implementation of planned EMR downtimes at RMH and participate in reviews for all critical EMR incidents and planned outages.
- Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of EMR benefits, including strategies to ensure benefits are measured and can be realised.
- Assist with the review of the impact for upgrades, special updates, code changes and new enhancements and develop change, communication and training plans to support their implementation.
About you:
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
- A sound understanding of EMR functionality and the supporting underlying technologies involved in maintaining an EMR.
- Significant experience and understanding of health care systems and processes.
- Significant leadership and operational management experience within a complex health environment.
- Proven ability to meet strategic, operational and budget objectives.
- Proven ability to initiate and manage large, complex enterprise-wide projects.
- Strategic thinking, organisational and planning ability, analysis and judgement.
