Director Rehabilitation Medicine

0.8 FTE/56hpfn - 5-year Leadership appointment

The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

Unit Description:

The Rehabilitation Medicine Unit supports patient care across RMH

The Consultation and Liaison Service provides acute assessment and care planning to patients who are recovering from illness and injury including stroke, neurosurgery and major trauma. The team works closely with acute colleagues to make sure that patients care progresses a timely way and is supported by patient focussed care plans

There is an admitted ward (30 beds) and admitted rehabilitation at home program (up to 20 beds) and outpatient clinics. 

The service supports teaching and training and undertakes a considerable volume of research

About the role:

Directors at The RMH provide exceptional leadership in the delivery of patient-focused care with in their units and demonstrate a commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, quality improvement, research and education. 

The Director is responsible and accountable for:
 - The delivery of high-quality, cost effective, clinical services, education and research optimising patient access and ensuring integrated high quality multidisciplinary health care is delivered across their unit/department.
 - The provision of Safe, Timely, Effective and Person-Centered care for their unit patients
 - As a senior leader, the Director contributes to the overall leadership and management of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, demonstrating the values of the Melbourne Way and Speaking up for safety to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.

About You:
Please review and or amend the requirements for the applicant

  • Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)
  • MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
  • Fellowship
    • Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (Royal Australasian College of Physicians) or equivalent qualification

Essential Experience for Performance in this Position:

  • Experience in a clinical leadership or managerial role.
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work professionally and collaboratively.
  • Experience in the implementation of quality improvement, work practice reform and change within a large organisation
  • Experience in financial and human resources management
  • Commitment to live the Melbourne Way - putting people first, leading with kindness and achieving excellence together
