About the role
Our Consumer lived experience team is welcoming a new peer support staff member.
You’ll work alongside a compassionate team of lived experience professionals who support consumers of the multidisciplinary HOPE and Engage programs and guests of our Safe Haven.
The HOPE, Engage and Safe Haven teams are embedded as a continuum of supports that constitute the Post Discharge Mental Health Support Program, supporting people who present to the Royal Melbourne Hospital Emergency Department in mental health crisis. We honour their stories, and respond with empathy, respect and hope. We practice from a trauma‑informed, strengths‑based foundation, supporting self‑determination, and centring choice, safety and connection in everything we do.
RMH-MHS is at the forefront of innovative mental health and addiction treatment. We provide holistic support to individuals in need, and we value the contributions of peer support workers in our team.
We are dedicated to a culturally safe, trauma-informed practice within mental health services. The team include both clinical and lived and living experience staff with a focus on inclusivity of consumers and their individual support needs.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide person‑centred, non‑clinical peer support that honours each person’s story, strengths and self‑determination
- Work across other programs as needed
- Support our Safe Haven with the occasional shift
- Utilise the principles and values of the Intentional Peer Support model
- Refer consumers to our LE community groups, community supports, programs and Safe Haven.
About You
- Experience from a similar lived experience or peer support role.
- Passionate about supporting others through shared understanding and mutuality.
- Confident in uplifting peers while honouring diverse experiences and voices.
- Work collaboratively with all staff, contributing to a supportive team environment.
