Consultant Psychiatrist, SUMITT (Substance Use and Mental Illness Treatment Team)
7hpf Fractional/Fixed Term from 01 October 2026 to 30 June 2028

Unit Description:
SUMITT is a community based, multidisciplinary team (MDT) providing AOD addiction expert advice, assessment and management to community-based mental health consumers of the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a psychiatrist with expertise or a strong interest in addiction and dual diagnosis to provide clinical leadership to the Substance Use and Mental Illness Treatment Team (SUMITT), supporting consumers with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
The successful applicant will provide clinical governance for the team, supervise psychiatry registrars, and deliver primary, secondary and tertiary consultation across the service.The role will also support the implementation of integrated dual diagnosis care within community mental health services, particularly the MH Acute Response Team based at Waratah Clinic in Moonee Ponds. Working as part of RMH's enhanced acute response model, the psychiatrist will provide training, consultation and specialist support to multidisciplinary clinicians delivering care in community settings.
As part of a time-limited service enhancement project, the position will contribute to the evaluation of the enhanced acute response model, helping assess its impact on improving timely, integrated and holistic care for people with co-occurring mental health and substance use needs in the community.
About You:
- Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)
- MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
- Fellowship, RANZCP
- Ideally, advanced training in Addiction Psychiatry
