Community Nurse – Home Dialysis Service

  • Part Time Fixed term position – maternity leave cover
  • 64 hours per fortnight
  • Work within a supportive, specialist renal team committed to patient independence

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of Victoria's leading public health services, renowned for excellence, innovation and compassionate care. We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Kidney Care Home Dialysis Service (HDS) at the Royal Park Campus.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support patients and families who have chosen the independence and benefits of home renal replacement therapy, including peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis. You will provide patient and family oriented renal services through education, training, case management and ongoing clinical support — empowering patients to manage their dialysis safely and confidently at home. The role extends across metropolitan and regional/rural settings, with outreach clinics, home visits and collaboration with a broad network of internal and external stakeholders including nephrology teams, GPs and community groups. The position is rostered Monday to Friday with no weekends/public holidays duties however, some overnight country visits are expected. 

About you

  • Post-Graduate Certificate in renal nursing or other relevant critical care specialty
  • Minimum 2 years current renal nursing experience
  • Proficiency in clinical nursing assessment skills
  • Ability to work autonomously with strong time management skills
  • Good negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Current Australian driver's licence and currency in Basic Life Support
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office
  • Commitment to The Melbourne Way – people first, leading with kindness, excellence together

Desirable

  • Recent acute renal care or community nursing experience
  • Demonstrated experience in patient education programs
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in and support change
