Clinical Product Optimisation Lead

About the role

Lead the Royal Melbourne Hospital’s Clinical Product Optimisation Program, applying the principles of Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT), value-based healthcare and evidence-based approaches to reduce clinical variation.

Working across surgical and procedural services, you’ll use benchmarking, data and clinical insight to identify opportunities to standardise practice, improve value and support high-quality care.

You’ll work closely with senior clinicians and multidisciplinary stakeholders to influence practice, build consensus and deliver sustainable improvements across a complex healthcare environment.

This is an opportunity to combine your clinical expertise, leadership and project management skills to make a meaningful impact on how care is delivered at RMH.

Key accountabilities

  • Develop and implement a RMH Clinical Product Optimisation Program and governance model.
  • Identify, analyse and report unwarranted clinical and product variation across designated specialties.
  • Lead clinician engagement activities that support standardisation and evidence-based product selection.
  • Facilitate clinical consensus and change management initiatives.
  • Support procurement sourcing strategies through clinical expertise and data-driven recommendations.
  • Develop specialty dashboards and executive reports demonstrating outcomes, benefits and opportunities.
  • Drive sustainable improvement initiatives across high-cost clinical areas including orthopaedics, neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery.

About you

You are an experienced Registered Nurse and clinical leader with a strong background in perioperative, surgical or procedural services. You bring:

  • Current AHPRA registration and relevant postgraduate nursing qualifications
  • Significant clinical and nursing leadership experience in an acute healthcare setting
  • Experience leading complex projects, service improvement or clinical transformation
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence senior clinicians
  • Excellent negotiation, facilitation and communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience using clinical, operational and financial data
  • Experience in clinical standardisation, value improvement or reducing unwarranted variation
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, healthcare procurement and product evaluation

Experience with GIRFT type model, surgical consumables, prostheses, implant governance, value analysis or strategic procurement will be highly regarded.
