The Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental Health Services provides specialist recovery-focused care for adults and older adults experiencing serious mental illness. Our multidisciplinary teams deliver high quality inpatient and community-based services that are trauma informed, evidence based and person centred.

As a leading mental health service, RMH plays a key role in sector reform through partnerships with the Victorian Collaborative Centre for Mental Health and Wellbeing and the State-wide Trauma Service.

About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is a senior nursing leadership role within the Adult Acute Inpatient Unit. Working closely with the Program Manager and multidisciplinary team, you will provide expert clinical consultancy, lead practice improvement initiatives and support safe, recovery-oriented care for consumers with complex mental health needs.

You will also mentor nursing staff, support workforce development and help implement contemporary clinical frameworks and service improvement initiatives across the inpatient service

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical leadership and consultancy within the inpatient unit
  • Support the implementation of Safewards, Mental Health Intensive Care Frameworks and reducing restrictive interventions initiatives
  • Mentor, coach and support nursing staff and recent recruits
  • Contribute to research, service improvement and clinical practice development activities
  • Support high quality consumer-centred care planning and recovery-focused practice
  • Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators to guide local improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders

About You

You are an experienced and compassionate mental health nurse with strong clinical leadership capability and a commitment to recovery-oriented care.

You bring:

  • Registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 6 + years post graduate experience in mental health nursing
  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex and high acuity consumers within inpatient settings
  • Strong mentoring, coaching and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Knowledge of contemporary mental health nursing frameworks and evidence-based practice
