Clinical Nurse Consultant – Delirium (Cognitive Support)

Join our multidisciplinary team to make a meaningful impact in the prevention, early identification, and management of delirium and cognitive decline across the Royal Melbourne Hospital.The Opportunity:
The Delirium and Cognitive Support CNC provides clinical expertise and assists in the prevention, diagnosis and management of delirium while providing cognitive support to vulnerable patients across RMH City Campus and Royal Park Campus.
The role encompasses patient assessment and supporting staff across both sites to implement cognitive support procedures and delirium guidelines that promote evidence-based best practice. It also includes delivering education and training to patients, carers and staff within the multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced clinical support to patients with cognitive impairment and delirium
- Lead education and best-practice implementation across both campuses
- Develop individual care plans and assist in guideline adherence across the service
- Monitor antipsychotic use and promote non-pharmacological strategies
- Support data collection, research, and quality improvement initiatives
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure continuity of care
About You:
- A Registered Nurse with current registration under the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Proven clinical experience in the assessment and management of cognitive impairment and delirium.
- Deep understanding of the Delirium Clinical Care Standard and NSQHS guidelines.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficient in relevant IT systems (Epic, Excel, MS Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
- A commitment to collaboration, kindness, and excellence – the Melbourne Way.
Desirable: Experience in quality improvement (Lean, Six Sigma, IHI) is advantageous.
