Business Analyst

- Provide expert financial oversight and business partnering support for the VIDRL, VICNISS and Guidance Portfolio at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
- Salary Packaging, 5 weeks annual leave plus ADO. Hybrid Working.
This role will primarily support is the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL). VIDRL is part of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, a joint venture between the University of Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. VIDRL provides the Victorian Department of Health with virology and mycobacteria public health reference laboratory services, including surveillance, outbreak investigations, reference testing and research.
Your New Role
- Prepare and process month-end journals, cost centre and special purpose fund reports, and diagnostic revenue reconciliations in line with financial timetables.
- Analyse and review financial systems, activity data, and revenue reports to support accurate reporting, budgeting, and operational decision-making.
- Assist the Business Manager with monthly management reporting, annual budget development, and ongoing financial reviews with divisional managers.
- Support the financial management of grant-funded programs and clinical trials, including budgeting, invoicing, acquittals, and reconciliations.
- Maintain financial controls and documentation, including the VIDRL Accounts Manual, and liaise with internal departments and external clients to resolve accounting and billing queries.
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or related field. Qualification or part qualification as a CPA or CA is desirable.
- Demonstrated commitment to The Melbourne Way — putting people first, leading with kindness, and achieving excellence together.
- Strong knowledge and experience in accounting, billing, revenue, and costing systems, including aged debtors, collections, and revenue maximisation processes.
- Highly numerate with advanced analytical and Excel skills, and experience meeting strict financial reporting deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Desirable experience with enterprise finance or pathology billing systems, Power BI reporting, and an understanding of Medicare and institutional billing frameworks.
