About the Role
The Royal Melbourne Hospital’s 42-bed Intensive Care Unit provides specialist critical care across the Parkville precinct, including services to the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre partners.
As an Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM), you will be a key member of the ICU leadership team, supporting the Nurse Unit Manager and Clinical Nurse Manager with the clinical and operational coordination of the unit. You will provide visible clinical leadership, support high-quality patient and family-centred care, and contribute to effective workforce, resource and patient flow management.
Working in a complex critical care environment, you will support nursing staff, promote excellence in practice and contribute to a culture of safety, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Key Accountabilities
- Clinical Leadership & Patient Care: Provide visible clinical leadership and role model safe, high-quality, patient and family-centred care.
- Operational Management & Patient Flow: Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the ICU, supporting effective patient flow and service delivery.
- Workforce Leadership & Culture: Lead, support and coordinate nursing staff, fostering a positive, collaborative and inclusive workplace culture.
- Quality, Safety & Clinical Governance: Promote a culture of safety, clinical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Education & Portfolios: Lead and contribute to designated portfolios, education and quality improvement initiatives within the ICU.
- Resource Management: Support the efficient use of staffing, equipment and clinical resources to optimise patient care and service outcomes.
About You
You are a Registered Nurse with current Division 1 registration, a postgraduate qualification in Critical Care Nursing and at least 12 months’ experience as an ANUM within an acute metropolitan ICU. You will also bring:
- Advanced clinical knowledge and expertise in intensive care nursing
- Strong clinical leadership, communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
- Experience coordinating daily operations, workforce, resources and patient flow
- Understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement and risk management
- Experience with relevant clinical and operational information systems, including portfolio or project work
- A commitment to staff development, education and positive workplace culture
- The ability to role model high standards of practice and support patient and family-centred care
