Unit Description:

The RMH Ophthalmology Unit provides acute and comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services for adults with complex eye conditions in 9 subspecialities.

  • Cataract surgery and intraocular lens implants
  • Corneal diseases, corneal crosslinking for keratoconus and corneal transplantation surgery
  • Glaucoma management with laser surgery, MIGS and tubes
  • Retinal diseases including intravitreal anti-VEGF injections and retinal laser treatment
  • Vitreoretinal surgery, including retinal detachment surgery
  • Uveitis and orbital inflammation
  • Orbital, oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery
  • Strabismus and ocular alignment
  • Emergency eye surgery and trauma

 

About the role:

The purpose of this role is to be the key full-time medical officer involved in the provision of ophthalmic care in Melbourne Health. With the support of the consultant medical staff, the registrar is responsible for ambulatory, emergent and inpatient ophthalmic diagnosis and management, including performance of ophthalmic surgery under appropriate supervision, and performance of ophthalmic laser and intravitreal injection procedures.

 

About You:

  • Current General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
  • Seeking to obtain a place in RANZCO accredited registrar vocational training program
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills.
