This is a 12-month 0.7 FTE Fixed term, Part Time position (60.2 Hours per Fortnight) commencing 1st February 2027.

Unit Description:

The Hepatology Fellowship is a highly rewarding one-year clinical and research programme designed to develop advanced Hepatology expertise within a large tertiary teaching hospital environment, with good exposure to complex liver disease management, multidisciplinary care, and clinical trials, and the opportunities for research across the broader Parkville Biomedical Precinct.

 

About the role:

The Fellow will play an integral role in both clinical service delivery and the continued growth of the department’s collaborative research profile. The position offers excellent exposure to the multidisciplinary management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) including immunotherapy, complex portal hypertension, all aetiologies of liver disease, acute liver failure and decompensated liver disease, including Fontan-associated liver disease and porphyria. Fellows will also gain experience within a large and active Hepatology Clinical Trials Unit. Roles include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating and contributing to the Hepatology Liver Cancer Multidisciplinary Meeting (MDM).
  • Participating in 3–4 specialist outpatient clinics per week.
  • Assisting the clinical team in the management of complex inpatient Hepatology referrals and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) referrals.
  • Developing expertise in advanced non-invasive liver assessment techniques, including Fibroscan, shear wave elastography, and bedside liver ultrasound.
  • Supporting multidisciplinary clinical services and collaborating with registrars and allied teams to deliver timely, high-quality patient care.
  • Working closely with the HCC and liver CNCs, for general hepatology management.
  • Performing and assisting the liver CNCs with ascitic taps.
  • Endoscopy as appropriate for level of training.

 

About You:

·       Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)

·       Appropriate tertiary health qualifications – MBBS or equivalent

·       Ability to work in a team

·       Well-developed communication and presentation skills
