Stroke Fellow Position Description

 

The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

 

Unit Description:

As one of the subunits of Neurology, The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) Comprehensive Stroke Centre is the leading stroke service in Australia and has been a world leader in the discovery and implementation of new stroke therapies. The hyperacute stroke team provides a rapid assessment and treatment service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, via the CODE-STROKE system. The Comprehensive Stroke Centre together with the Neurointervention Service is also the primary centre in Victoria for endovascular stroke therapy, including clot retrieval, accepting referrals from across the state 24/7. The Comprehensive Stroke Centre also operates Australia’s first CT-equipped Mobile Stroke Unit ambulances in conjunction with Ambulance Victoria providing coverage to central and north-western suburbs and will soon cover the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

 

 

About the role:

  • play a key role in the coordination of patient care in stroke and neurointervention
  • participate in weekly Stroke, Stroke Rapid Access and General Neurology clinics
  • participation in daily CODE STROKE services
  • attendance of weekly research and departmental meetings

 

Ab      About You:

  • Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)
  • MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications who have trained and completed core years of Neurology training (or local equivalent)
  • Completion of at least 2 years Neurology Advanced training
