The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.
Unit Description:
The Royal Melbourne Hospital provides an extremely specialised breast service which is part of a highly integrated network within the Parkville Precinct (including Northwestern BreastScreen, The Royal Women’s Hospital and The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre).
About the role:
The breast imaging fellowship is a 6-month full time position based in the radiology department at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.
This fellowship provides comprehensive specialist training in breast imaging, including advanced imaging techniques such as contrast enhanced mammography and breast MRI. In addition to the large volume of diagnostic imaging, our fellowship provides extensive procedural experience with breast biopsies (stereotactic, ultrasound and MRI biopsy) and multi-modality localisation techniques. The use of contrast for local breast cancer staging is considered standard of care in our department, and our unit currently performs the largest volume of contrast mammography and MRI biopsy in Australia.
- The weekly Breast Unit Multidisciplinary Meeting includes discussion of all biopsy results from the Parkville Precinct and provides a comprehensive overview of imaging, pathology, surgical management and neoadjuvant therapy.
- There is a strong culture of research across the Precinct, and involvement in research is supported and encouraged.
- The breast radiology fellow is rostered exclusively to breast imaging during the week. This position does not involve evening shift or night shift cover, however, will include some weekend days of general radiology cover (which is shared between the registrars and fellows in the department).
