  • Part-time 0.8 EFT (negotiable) – Fixed-term parental leave cover until 6/08/2026
  • Combination of assertive outreach and clinic-based work in Adult Community Mental Health
  • Team with a homeless portfolio based in the CBD of Melbourne

The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) part of the Parkville Precinct and is one of Australia's leading public hospitals, providing a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services, as well as rehabilitation, aged care, specialist clinics and community programs.

Community Team 1 (CT1) provides care to consumers in Melbourne’s CBD and Inner West, managing the homeless portfolio for Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental Health Service (RMH MHS). CT1 uses the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model, offering low caseloads, outreach-based treatment, team collaboration, and intensive care, including medication management, psychosocial support, assessments, referrals, and crisis interventions.

We are specifically looking for an experienced clinical psychologist to join our team to provide a strengths-based and personalised model of care to increase consumers well-being and functioning and to support the delivery of evidenced-based psychological assessments, formulations and interventions across the service.

This is a unique opportunity to work with marginalised consumers in a supportive team environment and to make a difference to some of the more vulnerable consumers in our community

About the role:

  • Work with a team of enthusiastic multidiscipline professionals providing assertive outreach and high-quality care to some of Melbourne’s most marginalised people.
  • Provide support and leadership from a psychology perspective and contribute to the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Complete clinical assessments, provide useful diagnosis and recovery planning for our consumers.
  • Develop and apply psychological interventions suitable for our consumer cohort that will assist with their recovery.
  • Support multi-disciplinary colleagues in the delivery of psychological interventions.

 

About you:

Formal Qualifications

  • This is Senior Psychology role open to Clinical Psychologists only and must hold a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology.

Essential

  • Demonstrate extensive experience in the provision of specialist services in public mental health settings with a strong focus on local communities and inter-agency specific knowledge
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of severe mental illness and psychiatric disability and approved supervisor status (or be willing to undertake this training).
  • Interested in working with homeless consumers directly in the community
  • Knowledge of effective evidence-based interventions appropriate to low prevalence disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, personality disorder, relapse prevention and substance abuse
  • Leadership skills including initiative, advanced communication skills and the capacity and willingness to further develop these
  • Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
