About the Role

 

The Coeliac Research Unit delivers world-leading clinical care, research, and training in coeliac disease. Based on a collaboration between the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Parkville, the team is dedicated to improving the health of people living with coeliac disease by supporting the development of innovative new diagnostic tests and treatments. The Unit conducts both investigator-led studies and industry-sponsored clinical trials focused on advancing understanding and management of coeliac disease and related disorders.

 

The Research Nurse will support the delivery of multiple clinical research programs, working closely with clinicians, researchers, and external partners. Key responsibilities include implementing clinical trial protocols, recruiting and supporting participants, coordinating study visits (including gluten challenges), collecting and managing clinical data, administering investigational products, and processing, storing, and shipping biological specimens. The role also contributes to ethics submissions and ensures all activities are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and national regulatory standards.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Collaborate with gastroenterologists and scientists to conduct sponsored and investigator-led studies focused on coeliac disease.
  • Recruit and manage trial participants, ensuring adherence to protocols.
  • Organise and coordinate participant visits, including gluten challenges and sample collections.
  • Administer investigational products and collect clinical specimens, such as blood.
  • Record clinical data and keep subject databases updated.
  • Support the Coeliac Research Manager, such as in preparing Ethics submissions.

 

About You

 

  • You are an AHPRA registered Nurse with Registered Nurse Division 1 (RN Div 1) qualification.
  • You are driven by a desire to support high quality research to optimise patient outcomes.
  • You have effective communication and organisation skills and a passion for continued professional development.
  • You enjoy working effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience with clinical trials and GCP certification is desirable but not essential.
