About the role

Join 6 South East (6SE), the Cardiothoracic Surgery and Respiratory Medicine Unit at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, City Campus.

6SE is a 30-bed ward, including a 12-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU), caring for patients following complex heart and lung surgery, as well as patients with complex respiratory conditions.

As a Registered Nurse, you’ll work with a diverse and clinically complex patient cohort while building your skills across cardiothoracic surgery, respiratory medicine and high-dependency care. You’ll be supported by a collaborative team that values professional development, teamwork and high-quality patient care.

Key Accountabilities

• Ensure the provision of high-quality patient care. This includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care in collaboration with 6 South East Multidisciplinary Team.
• Advance your knowledge and clinical practice with access to professional development and education opportunities
• Uphold The Melbourne Way core values and standards of practice.
• Communicate effectively with 6 South East key stakeholders; Surgical Services Leadership, Digital Coordination Centre (DCC), Theatre, RMH Wards, the Emergency Department and Surgical and Medical Units.

About You

You are a Registered Nurse with acute nursing experience, strong clinical judgement and a commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care. You will also bring:

• Minimum 12 months' acute nursing experience.
• Well-developed assessment, clinical reasoning, problem-solving and prioritisation skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Motivation and willingness to learn and develop your clinical practice.
• A high level of reliability, professionalism and accountability.
• Desirable: Acute surgical nursing experience.
• Desirable: Experience in Cardiac Surgery, Thoracic Surgery or Respiratory Medicine.
