The Pathology Service, located at RMH City Campus, provides a wide range of pathology services to Royal Melbourne Hospital and Melbourne Private Hospital.
We provide a broad range of acute health care services including general and specialty adult medical, surgical, pre-operative, mental health and emergency services to our patients and community.
Working as a part of the Pathology Collections team, our phlebotomist’s provide a high standard of quality patient care in Pathology Collections servicing both outpatients’ collection and inpatient wards.
Phlebotomists also participate in the provision of services to the Royal Park Campus and Melbourne Private Hospital and are responsible for performing specimen collection and organising safe transport of specimens to the laboratory.
Your new role:
- Perform safe, accurate, timely and patient centred specimen collection (bloods, stool, urine, sputum and others).
- Provide specimen collection across all sites serviced by Melbourne Health Pathology.
- Transport specimen or organise courier to the laboratory.
- Work in partnership with consumers, patients and where applicable carers and families.
- Create a psychologically safe work environment where everyone feels safe to speak up.
- Work across a seven day rotating roster including afternoon shifts and weekends.
About you:
- Certificate III or IV in pathology specimen collection
- Commitment to live the Melbourne Way - putting people first, leading with kindness and achieving excellence together.
- Venepuncture experience. Desirable minimum 2 years experience as phlebotomist in a hospital or a clinic setting.
- Able to work a 7 day rotating roster including afternoons and weekends.
- Effective and accurate written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong work ethic and a positive, ‘can do’ attitude.
