Melbourne Health is leading an exciting transformation for Victorian creating a centre of excellence for the Parkville precinct. The transition toward Public Pathology Victoria represents a major milestone that will strengthen the ability to deliver high-quality, integrated pathology services across the state.

The Opportunity
As Pathology Operations Director, you'll oversee the effective and efficient operations of Melbourne Health's Pathology service while developing strategic pathways for our future state. Working closely with the Director of Pathology and the General Manager, you'll lead operational excellence, inspire teams, and drive continuous improvement across all service areas.
Beyond day-to-day operations—the Operations Director role will be instrumental in developing partnership approaches across the Parkville precinct, aligning with the principles of the upcoming Public Pathology Victoria initiative.
Your new role
- Oversee efficient operations of the MH Pathology service at The Royal Melbourne Hospital
- Develop and implement strategic pathways aligned with organisational objectives
- Support the Director of Pathology in maximising service delivery effectiveness
- Lead, inspire and develop pathology department managers and staff
- Provide accurate service performance reporting and support regulatory compliance
- Build collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
- Drive a culture of high performance, continuous improvement and excellence
- Work with Parkville precinct partners to deliver integrated pathology services
About you
Essential
- Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Science or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 10 years as a senior manager in pathology and/or hospital environment
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and drive workplace change
- Strong knowledge of public pathology service delivery and quality systems
- Experience in change management and project management
- High-level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
- Advanced problem-solving abilities and decision-making capabilities
- Commitment to continuous improvement, education, training and research
- Competent with management systems, databases and software packages
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in leadership, business management or equivalent (or currently studying)
