About the role

At the RMH, we love to grow and develop our leaders.

Due to recent internal promotions, Surgical Services has 2 Nurse Unit Manager positions available, and we are seeking the next leaders for 3 South West (3SW) and 4 South (4S).

3SW is a 20-bed colorectal and hepatobiliary & Upper GI surgical ward, while 4S is a 24-bed urology, vascular, breast and endocrine surgical ward.

Both wards are supported by a strong CNC group, including stomal therapy across both wards and breast care nurses on 4S, excellent ANUMs and a shared clinical nurse education team.

As the Nurse Unit Manager, you will provide visible and accessible leadership to nursing and multidisciplinary teams, with a strong focus on patient-centred care, safety, quality and operational excellence.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead, coach and develop the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality care.
  • Manage daily ward operations, including staffing, rostering and workload allocation.
  • Support patient flow and progression of care through effective bed management.
  • Drive quality improvement, patient safety and risk management initiatives.
  • Lead workforce performance, development, recruitment and staff engagement.
  • Manage the ward budget, resources and cost centre in line with organisational priorities.
  • Build strong partnerships with medical, allied health and key stakeholders.
  • Lead change and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, outcomes and patient experience.

About You

You are a capable and motivated nurse leader who brings:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
  • Proven leadership experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ ANUM experience in an acute ward; NUM experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain high-performing teams
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience supporting staff development, coaching and performance management
  • Strong clinical governance and patient safety knowledge
  • Financial and resource management capability
  • Ability to lead change, think strategically and solve complex problems

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications in nursing, leadership or management, or currently working towards one
  • Experience in quality improvement, research or innovation activities
