Nurse Unit Manager – Perioperative Services
The Royal Melbourne Hospital – City Campus

 

  • Full Time Ongoing position
  • 80 hours including fortnighly ADO
  • Pivotal role leadership role

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is seeking an experienced and visionary Nurse Unit Manager – Perioperative Services to lead our high-performing scrub/scout team. This is a unique opportunity to join a world-class institution that values innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

As NUM, you’ll oversee the clinical scrub/scout team and operational management of a large and complex perioperative service that includes 16 theatres and a dedicated team of 116 EFT. Operating 24/7, our service spans Main Theatre, CSSD, 3 East/23-Hour Unit, and 3 West Day Procedure Unit, with additional surgical lists at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Your new role:

  • Drive excellence in patient outcomes through evidence-based practice
  • Lead workforce planning, recruitment, and retention strategies
  • Foster a culture of growth, wellness, and accountability
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver seamless surgical care
  • Manage resources, budgets, and workforce planning to meet service demands

About you:

  • Has extensive perioperative nursing experience and post-graduate qualifications
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking and the ability to lead through complexity
  • Builds and retains high-performing teams through mentorship and development
  • Is committed to quality improvement, safety, and innovation
  • Communicates with clarity and confidence across all levels of the organisation
