About RMH MHS and the Community Team

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of Australia’s leading public health services, delivering specialist medical, surgical and mental health care across hospital and community settings.

Community Team 1 (CT1) supports consumers across Melbourne’s CBD and Inner West, including RMH Mental Health Services’ homelessness portfolio. The team delivers intensive community-based care through an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model, including outreach, crisis response, medication support and psychosocial interventions.

We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Clinician (minimum 5 years post qualification experience) to join our City Campus team, providing strengths-based, evidence-based care for consumers with complex needs within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.

Your new role

  • Provide support and leadership in the delivery of evidence-based treatment and interventions, ensuring the provision of high-quality assertive outreach and care coordination of services to adults experiencing mental health issues as well as homelessness.
  • Work with a team of enthusiastic multidiscipline professionals providing assertive outreach and high-quality care to some of Melbourne’s most marginalised people.
  • Develop and apply mental health interventions suitable for our consumer cohort that will assist with their recovery.
  • Enjoy the benefits of working closely with colleagues in a combination of clinic based and assertive outreach work in the CBD of Melbourne.

About you

To be successful, you will be

  • Interested in working with homeless consumers directly in the community.
  • Possess formal qualifications and registration as an Occupational Therapist, Psychologist or Social Worker and have at least 5 years’ experience in mental health services.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of effective evidence-based interventions appropriate to low prevalence disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, personality disorder, relapse prevention and substance abuse.
  • Leadership skills including initiative, advanced communication skills and the capacity and willingness to further develop these
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in the provision of specialist services in public mental health settings with a strong focus on local communities and inter-agency specific knowledge.
