The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of Victoria's leading public health services, renowned for excellence, innovation and compassionate care. We are currently seeking motivated Laboratory Assistants to join our Central Specimen Reception (CSR) team within Pathology.
This is a vital role at the heart of our pathology service, responsible for the timely and accurate receipt, registration, handling and management of diagnostic specimens across a 24/7 operation. You will play a key part in supporting patient care and diagnostic outcomes by ensuring specimens are processed efficiently and to the highest standards of accuracy and quality. The role operates across a rotating roster including day, evening, overnight, weekend and public holiday shifts, and requires someone who thrives in a dynamic, high-volume environment.
About you
- Minimum 12 months experience in Central Specimen Reception (CSR)
- Ability to work across any shift in a 24/7 rotating roster, including weekends, public holidays and night shifts
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a high-pressure team environment
- Strong time management skills and ability to troubleshoot issues under pressure

Desirable
- Strong computer literacy
- Familiarity with current Pathology LIS (AUSLAB)
- Background in Medical Laboratory Science or tertiary scientific qualifications
- Interest in participating in quality improvement initiatives within the laboratory setting
