Technical Officer – Prosthetics & Orthotics

Are you practical, hands-on, and passionate about helping people regain independence and mobility? Join our Prosthetics & Orthotics team at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and play a key role in supporting patients through their rehabilitation journey.

About the role:

As a Technical Officer, you’ll:

  • Manufacture custom orthopaedic devices based on specifications from Prosthetists and Orthotists
  • Apply expertise in plastic moulding, fibre lamination, CAD design, 3D printing, and safe operation of power tools
  • Oversee inventory management and maintain a safe, compliant workshop environment
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior Technical Officers, students, and clinical staff in fabrication techniques

About you:

  • Experience in prosthetics and orthotics is desirable; however, candidates from technical or trade backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply, with on-the-job training provided
  • Applications from Orthopaedic Technologists, plaster technicians, and Allied Health Assistants are welcomed
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team, supported by strong communication skills
  • High attention to detail with the ability to work effectively under deadlines
  • Willingness to share knowledge and actively support the development of junior colleagues
