Are you an experienced nurse leader with a passion for operational excellence and patient centred care? The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Director of Nursing and Operations to lead the Medical Services team. This is an exceptional opportunity to drive performance, support innovation, and champion clinical excellence within one of Victoria’s most respected public health services.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will work closely with the General Manager and Medical Director to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and person-centred care across medical specialties. You will oversee daily operations, guide strategic workforce planning, manage performance and budgets, and support continuous improvement in access and patient flow.

Your New Role

  • Lead the daily operations of Medical Services at the Royal Melbourne Hospital’s City Campus.
  • Partner with the General Manager and Medical Director to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and person-centred care.
  • Oversee patient flow, access and demand management across the service and broader hospital.
  • Drive performance across nursing and operational services, ensuring alignment with clinical and organisational goals.
  • Lead, support and develop clinical and operational teams, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage workforce planning, service delivery targets, and budget performance across a complex healthcare portfolio.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance patient care, safety, and service innovation at RMH.

About You

  • A Registered Nurse with extensive leadership experience in operational roles within large or complex health services.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage service performance in high-demand environments.
  • Strong background in workforce planning, budget oversight, patient access, and clinical governance.
  • A collaborative leader who supports staff development, innovation, and positive workplace culture.
  • Demonstrated success in driving improvements in patient care and service delivery outcomes.
